Week 1— What Your Student Will Hear About "The Sower"

THIS WEEK — Session 1: "The Sower" | ESTA SEMANA — Sesión 1: «El Sembrador»

This week we're diving into one of Jesus' most famous stories: a farmer scatters seed, and it lands on four different types of ground — a hard path, rocky soil, soil full of thorns, and good soil. Same seed every time; the difference is what happens once it lands. Jesus explained that the seed represents God's Word, and the four soils represent four different ways people respond to it — some tune it out completely, some get excited for a moment and then fade, some let life's distractions crowd it out, and some let it actually take root and grow into something real. We'll ask students to be honest about which "soil" describes them most right now—and remind them that no matter how hard or crowded the ground feels, God is the one who can soften a heart no person can soften on their own.

Esta semana profundizaremos en una de las historias más famosas de Jesús: un agricultor esparce semillas y estas caen en cuatro tipos de terreno distintos: un camino duro, suelo rocoso, tierra llena de espinos y tierra buena. La semilla es siempre la misma; la diferencia radica en lo que sucede una vez que cae. Jesús explicó que la semilla representa la Palabra de Dios y que los cuatro tipos de suelo simbolizan las distintas formas en que las personas responden a ella: algunos la ignoran por completo, otros se entusiasman momentáneamente pero luego pierden el interés, algunos permiten que las distracciones de la vida la ahoguen, y otros dejan que realmente eche raíces y crezca hasta convertirse en algo auténtico. Pediremos a los estudiantes que sean sinceros sobre qué tipo de "suelo" los describe mejor en este momento, y les recordaremos que, por muy duro o saturado que parezca el terreno, Dios es quien puede ablandar un corazón que ninguna persona podría ablandar por sí misma.

"Out of the four soils — hard path, rocky ground, thorny ground, or good soil — which one would you say describes you most this week, and why?"

De los cuatro tipos de suelo —el camino duro, el terreno pedregoso, el terreno con espinos o la buena tierra—, ¿cuál dirías que te describe mejor esta semana y por qué?

This is the exact same question we're asking students Friday night, so you're picking up a conversation they've already started, not starting a new one. If they need a nudge, you can describe the four quickly: hard path (it just doesn't sink in), rocky ground (excited for a moment, then it fades), thorny ground (crowded and choked out by everything else going on), good soil (it actually sticks and grows). There's no wrong answer here — the goal isn't to get them to say "good soil"; it's to get them talking honestly about where they're really at.
